To make money online many people jump right in before they are properly prepared. Most people will not make a dime online and yet there are others who will make more in one month than most people make in a whole year. Why is that?

My answer begins with the age-old chicken or egg question, "what comes first the chicken or the egg"? Personally I vote for, well never mind, each argument you or I make comes back to the same old conclusion - I have no clue and I don't think many of us do either.

But one thing I do have a clue about and know for sure is that to make money online you must first have Passion for the company products and/or service of any Internet business from which you expect to make money.

Passion in this sense simply means that you've researched and like the company and products or services. It is then that you translate that like (or Passion) into the education, excitement and work that usually accompany Passion.

I will have to say that many online entrepreneurs are so good at what they do that they ignore passion because they can sell anything. But I'm concerned about those of you who are not so knowledgeable at working an online business successfully.

Now, I'm not trying to make anyone believe that Passion is the only thing necessary. Because to be successful you must also have a good website, good marketing, widespread advertising, company support, effective keywords, and etc. Those things are often learned from the company you join - but sidestep Passion and you reduce your chances for success dramatically.

It therefore follows that, if you have no Passion for the company and the products and services provided by that company, again, you won't attempt to do the work you are being taught.

Internet marketing work is typically not all that difficult or time consuming but it does take motivation caused by Passion to get you off and running with a sustained effort so that you won't stumble.

You have a great resource in the Internet search engines to search about the Internet Marketing industry for business opportunities, USE IT!

Your research should uncover a company that you like and have confidence in. It should be solid, founded on great principles, and easy to understand with great products and services that are sell-able for which you can have Passion. If you don't find it move on,
You can find the right opportunity containing the attributes identified above.

Comments like, well, that one sounds good and the compensation plan is excellent so I guess I'll start that business - does not sound like a decision based on anything near Passion. And remember when you hear that an Internet "guru" does that, don't be tempted, because as I said earlier they are experienced and can sell just about anything, without being Passionate about the company products and services.

Note: By the way it's your goal to get to the point where you can sell about anything online. That end skill and goal is a worthy one indeed.

Remember, there are other steps you must make before you step into Internet Marketing but if you don't first find the right company products and services to be passionate about, all of those other steps may just cause you a lot of frustration instead of bringing you great success.

Not being Passionate about a company and products and services that has market proof that it will sell is a pitfall you simply must avoid.

Where has the summer gone?

I can't believe we're in October already! At the start of the summer, along with many others I am sure, I had every good intention of devoting as much time as possible to developing my blogs and progressing to making money online. Unfortunately, once again, life has gotten in the way. I went from struggling to get any nursing work, to working over 40 hours a week, which has resulted in very little time to devote to blogging and developing income streams. Hopefully now though, life is a little more back on track and I can spend some more time blogging. The only good thing is that, despite my lack of online time, my blogs have continued to be viewed, abeit in very low numbers - not surprisingly, it shows that the time devoted by me at the beginning of the summer certainly was worthwhile, and that hopefully, with regular time now spent online, things should start to develop.

Along with millions of others, I am going to try to capitalise on the Christmas shopping market using a combination of my Deals of the week and motorcycle bookshop blogs. It is difficult to know what to specialise in, and what to advertise, so I'm going to keep an eye on childrens television adverts - trying to find well advertised products at discounted prices, and will also continue to advertise ice hockey and motorcycle products as these are two of my main interests.

Hopefully, all being well, I can now resume updating on a weekly basis and it won't be too long before some income begins to come in.

Despite my continued lack of time to commit to my blogs lately, my southernbiker blog continues to have daily views, this shows that the initial effort continues to pay off, and that I really do need to find the time to continue publicising the site in order to make money online. Facebook and MCN both continue to be a good source of traffic. Views have slowed on this blog - my own fault due to lack of time, but hopefully that will now improve again. The remaining challenge is to consolidate views into sales on affiliate links, more research is obviously needed into what is currently selling and what is not to enable me to earn money online.

Overdue update

It's not good, slacking from focus I mean. Although I had a pleasant surprise when checking my adsense account today, and have earnt some money - all be it a small amount - just under $1, it's a start, and is even more impressive because I have not been able to commit the time I would have liked to my blogs over the past couple of weeks due to work commitments.

The time previously spent concentrating on ensuring my blogs are out there and getting viewed is obviously starting to pay off, with links from facebook, twitter and squidoo. My motorcycle blog continues to be the most viewed with regular traffic coming from posts on the MCN and bikerforum websites. Time is now needed to be spent on concentrating on getting traffic to take a look at the affiliate links and making purchases. Hopefully with time, the deals of the week site will also see sales from the Amazon links which I am managing to update on a weekly basis.

It is good to see evidence that all the previous time invested is beginning to pay off, although evidence is also showing that continued time investment will see an income beginning to be made. It's only a small beginning, but exciting to see evidence that money can be made online with no financial outlay. Determination is definitely the keyword to success in making money online.

Although average daily viewings of the sites is generally on the increase, it is still proving to be a challenge to convert these into clicks on affiliate links in order to earn money online. More time is needed to be spent on driving traffic towards the links and encouraging people to purchase products. Eventually the right product will be found and earnings will start to increase. Determined to earn money online

My niche site http://southernbiker.wordpress.com/ is now one month old, total viewings are just over 700, which is what I want to aim for per day. I have added a new page to the site entitled special offers, which has a few lines about what each of my affiliate banners offers, so it should now only be a matter of time before I start to earn money online. As well as continuing to update the site on a daily basis and post on the forums regularly, I have written an article relating to motorbikes and submitted it to three ezine sites with a link to my niche site, so again, it should only be a matter of time before a bigger increase in traffic is seen, and the views begin to convert to money being earnt.

It is not sufficient to expect to earn money online purely by putting affiliate banners on a website, you have to actively drive traffic towards the banners and give viewers a reason to click on them. I have also come to realise that developing a niche site with a specific affiliate product is how to successfully earn money online. I have joined click2sell and am currently researching which would be an effective product to market.

I have continued to make regular postings on specialist forums as well as facebook, and although numbers are still only small, the consistency is paying off, having just spent another 3 days away from the pc, viewings have remained consistent on http://southernbiker.wordpress.com/, total viewings so far this month are now just under 700. My next challenge is to convert those viewings to clicks and purchases on the affiliate sites I have signed up for in order to earn money online. Today I have added another page to the site entitled special offers, hopefully this may encourage people to click through to the affiliate sites and make purchases.

Having done more research, it would seem that writing an article for submission to ezine would be another method of getting traffic to this site, so that is my next challenge, will report back on how it affects visits. There were 55 visits to this site in the last few days of May, which, considering I am still only just getting started on directing traffic, I don't think was all together bad, but really going to concentrate on increasing that now in order to earn money online.

I have today listed both of my sites on a free web listing directory - see link at side. It'll be interesting to see which of the sites this is most effective for. After spending time joining relevant facebook groups for this site last night, it is finally starting to get some viewings, 5 so far - not a lot, but a start. Just goes to show that consistent effort will eventually payoff. Hopefully next step will be starting to earn money online.

When searching for information, sites to promote your own on, and various other tools, do make sure you check how recently they've been active. I've come across several sites and blogs which are shown at or close to the top of search engines but which have been inactive for a considerable period - there's no point posting on or trying to get traffic from a site which is out of date and not currently being used!

This is purely due to my making regular posts on two niche forums, motorcycle news and the biker forum, yesterday I also spent a bit of time joining several facebook groups about motorbikes. It is still proving much harder, however, to drive traffic to this site because there are so many sites about how to earn money online. I have joined a couple of forums, but still think the key is search engine optimisation, so am going to focus my efforts there for a while, as well as on facebook groups.

Investing time driving traffic to your website really is worthwhile and does work. I've just had three days away from home with no internet access so have been unable to spend time driving traffic to my niche website http://southernbiker.wordpress.com/ but because I invested time in posting on specialist forums and blogs during the past week there have still been views in double figures to the site this weekend. I am now beginning to investigate the tools offered by Google's webmaster and will update you as to progress and success of them.

Driving traffic to this site is proving more of a challenge because there are so many sites about earning money online out there. The single most important thing you have to be prepared to do is put time and effort in to drive traffic towards your site. One of my biggest passions in life is my motorbike, so the first site I set up to learn the ropes is a local information site for bikers http://southernbiker.wordpress.com/
and I have quickly learnt that posting regularly on related forums and blogs drives traffic towards my site, I also plug it regularly on my facebook account. It does take time, but not a huge amount of it, and hopefully over time people will revisit as updates are made. In my first 3 weeks there have been 338 views of the site, not bad considering I only actively started driving traffic a week ago. Last Saturday being the best day so far with 115 views - admittedly it was raining so most bikers had nothing better to do than surf the net. I think this proves though that with a little bit of effort and the right affiliate/advertising programmes in place money can be made. I have only today signed up to affiliate programmes for this site, and as I am currently not prepared to outlay any cash on an upgrade of my wordpress site I cannot currently display adsense, but I will keep you posted as to progress. It will be a working diary of my extensive research into how to earn money online.

I do work full time as a nurse so unfortunately am not able to devote as much time as I would like to on developing a source of information on how to earn money online.

Briefly, my initial research has found that to earn money online, you do not have to make any initial outlay. The simplest way to earn money online is to sign up for paid surveys, although I have found that it would be extremely difficult to earn the thousands of pounds promised in the short time frames because most surveys have a criteria to be met and pay a very small amount (sometimes as little as 10p) for surveys that can take up to 20 minutes to complete. Imagine how long you would have to spend online to earn anywhere near the sums that are promised in some of the adverts to earn money online.

A relatively easy and simple way to set yourself up to earn money online is to sign up for Google Adsense, which of course is a really simple process through the Blogger site or Google home page.

Have to go to work this afternoon, so will update again as soon as I get the opportunity.

I look forward to the day when I can earn money online and not have to go to work! Although being a nurse is a vocation and I don't think I'll ever give up completely.
